The majority of business challenges, including those we may suspect are
problems with technology, are actually 'people problems'. There is no
technology solution to a people problem. Many projects fail because too
much attention is paid to technology, rather than focusing on human
systems. The biggest improvements in business come from the proper
marriage: A little bit of technology and a deep understanding of the
human side of business
The Difference Between Politics
and Business
When we do politics, we're acting as guardians. We are willing to
suffer personal discomfort and make no personal profit because we're
showing our loyalty to our cause. In business life, we're the opposite
- It's foolish to run a business for no profit, and it's smart to heal
or shut down a failing business rather than rack up greater losses.
Keeping It Simple
One of the greatest teachers of physics was Richard Feinmann - his "Six
Easy Pieces" is a classic. He didn't make physics "palatable" by
rewriting it to conform to pre-existing prejudices, but he was
relentless at finding ways to make ideas clear and compelling and
persuasive and easy to understand.
You're Smarter Than You Think.
I don't want to spend my time making you think I'm smart. I want to
spend my time helping you realize that you're smarter than you thought.
There's a joke that a consultant borrows your watch to tell you the
time. I want to borrow your watch and teach you to read it for
yourself.
